Introduction

Hi, I'm Kristen. I'm from Portland, Oregon, and I'm a little bit too proud of it. Seriously, I will probably tell you I'm from Portland twice in every conversation because it's important to my identity. I'm undeclared in arts and sciences, but I'll probably end up studying Spanish and some kind of science. My secret dream in life is to join the circus, but realistically, I'll probably either go into healthcare, graphic design, or education. I really haven't decided... I played soccer and lacrosse in high school, and I love skiing, snowboarding, and biking - pretty much anything that gets me outside - and I'm starting to get back into climbing. My favorite pastime is eating white foods. I watch too much tv, and I'm okay with that. I also like to read a lot, but don't end up doing it very often. I came from a really small school (75 kids in my class), where I spent 13 years, so my favorite part of Santa Clara so far is meeting so many new people. Another important part of myself is that I spent last spring break and summer in the Dominican Republic teaching English, Spanish literacy, and various other things to local kids. It was probably the best thing I've ever done, and I'm in a constant state of wanting to get back and check in on all my kiddos.
P.S. I really just want to be Tina Fey, you guys.

  1. I can see why you are proud of Portland. It is a beautiful place. And with that much energy and activity in your life you should go into education. People would love to learn from an adventurous person.

  2. Good to see someone else who's not-too-sure about their future and not afraid to say it. It's still early, and there's plenty of time left to explore ideas.

I've met a lot of Portlanders here at SCU. Glad to see the PNW representing! (I'm from Spokane, and likewise probably have too much pride for my hometown.)

  3. How was it being in such a small school? Did you like it? I come from a very large public school, so im interested. and honestly, i love tina fey too. she's my idol. did you watch her on the golden globes?

  4. My school was semi small for my area. I went to a Jesuit all guys high school with a graduating class of around 200. Public schools in my area normally had around 500 in a class. Did you like having 75 classmates? Was your school really close because of the smaller size?

Serving in the Dominican Republic sounds really fun! I wish I had the guts to travel out of the states to do the same. (I would also have to learn Spanish... ;P)

  5. I agree Portland rocks! We have that in common, I think I bring it up the same amount! I say follow your dream of wanting to be in a circus because you could definitely pull that off. I love the fact you're confident in yourself because you have a lot to be confident about! Coming from a smaller school can be a big change into college, but it seems like you're doing just fine with it!

  6. hi kristen! Show me around Portland, I've never been there but it is definitely a city I'd like to experience! Also, please tell me about your spring break/summer experiences abroad. I go abroad a lot myself and it is a subject that intrigues me... lets get coffee one day and chat! :)
